Julie Kenny

Growing up in a number of outback Australian towns developed my love of exploring landscapes, strong cups of tea and a good chinwag. Respect for Country and the significance of 'place' is at the heart of my practice. My photographic works focus on manipulating realism and exploring abstract notions through an aerial perspective.

The colour, line, pattern, and texture of our ever-changing landscapes always astounds me. Often these aspects are not visible when driving through the flat expanses of our different regions. Through exploring and photographing Country from an aerial perspective my intention is to share the natural beauty I observe. In doing so I aim to deepen the viewer’s connection to Boodja (Country) by engaging them with aspects of the landscape they would not normally observe. While drone photography has enabled us to capture landscapes using a new technology it is important to acknowledge that this perspective has been documented by Aboriginal people for thousands of years.
